The 60's brought to us short hair, mini skirts, and live bands. The style of the late fifties was still popular in the early sixties, but by the middle of the sixties suddenly everyone was wearing mini skirts and go-go boots. The sixties was a time when fashion couldn't make up it's mind, and kept changing. By the end of the sixties, fashion was all about hippie shirts, beads and flowing hair/afros.
70s fashion began where the 60s left off. Mini skirts were popular and the flower power influence was everywhere. Trousers were flared and shirts had big collars. For men, the kipper tie was soon standard wear with a suit.
Here a some examples:
Tank Tops and Mix and Match Knitwear.
Platform Soled Shoes.
Flared Trousers, Bell Bottoms and Trouser Suits.
The 80s were an exciting time for fashion, it was a time when both genders were trying to find ways to express their creativity and individuality. Men wore lots of makeup and grew longer hair, and women wore short hair and and layers of clothing. Jumpsuits and flairs were a big thing, and the majority of people were going to hippie festivals etc. Lots of people wore leg warmers - basically, 80's fashion had that kind of 'Dancer' vibe.
The schoolgirl look of baby doll dresses with puffed sleeves and thigh-high stockings became popular because of Clueless (the movie). Also popular were slip dresses worn over T-shirts. Chunky shoes and loads of denim were also popular with kids.
Now the 80s are coming back into fashion - skinny jeans, chunky knit jumpers, bright beaded necklaces....but the 2000s have also bought us some original fashion. Along with the skinny jeans is floral shirt dresses, pretty ballet flats and dirty denim jackets. Perfect for summer! 2010 will see blocks of colour, teamed with girly florals, boyish converse and big bows. 2010 Fashion? We salute you!
